Postnatal Rehabilitation
Once you have given birth, you will naturally dedicate all your attention and care to your newborn, leaving little time for your own wellbeing. The demands of caring for your newborn are huge and, therefore, your health is equally important. A healthy and happy mother can care for their baby much more easily than a mother in pain or restricted by injuries following pregnancy and childbirth.
Imagine the strain or injury your body has endured from the postural changes, limited sleeping positions and structural alterations that have occurred throughout pregnancy, not to mention the prolonged positions a mother must adopt during breastfeeding, the strain of carrying your baby in a car seat, rocking them to sleep for endless hours, playing on the floor with other children whilst holding the newborn, lifting pushchairs in and out of cars…. the list goes on and on.
After nine months of pregnancy and then childbirth, when your body is the most tired it’s ever been, you must now function to a new extreme to care for your new baby, on very limited rest and sleep. All too often, women will ignore their own aches, pain, injuries and bodily dysfunctions, brushing it off as “all part of having children”.
The following conditions are not just things you should put up with, but are common problems that are easily improved and even prevented with osteopathic care:
- Back or neck pain
- Coccyx pain
- Pelvic or pubic symphysis pain
- Heaviness in legs on standing
- Cramping
- Shoulder pain
- Bladder urgency
- Pelvic floor weakness
- Abdominal muscle separation (diastasis recti)
- Abdominal pain or discomfort
- Pins and needles in hands or feet
- Caesarian scar pain
Testimonials from previous postnatal patients
My third pregnancy was full of tricky surprises, especially having stress incontinence. I started seeing Danielle post pregnancy to help reduce my bladder urgency as I was feeling I constantly needed to go and also a lot of discomfort in that area.
After seeing Danielle for just two sessions of gentle treatments, things improved so much. She explained why it was happening and how she had managed to reduce the pressure on my bladder. The constant feeling and the discomfort of a full bladder had also gone.
Danielle, the miracle worker, changed my life and I highly recommend her to any expectant or new motherGheeta Devi Jassi
I had been suffering with coccyx pain since the birth of my second child. Several months later, it was starting become an issue with my training and also being able to sit on the floor for any length of time (a big problem when you have a newborn and a toddler!).
I saw Danielle on 2 occasions and she quickly made me feel comfortable and at ease. She examined me thoroughly and took the time to fully explain what could have been causing the pain.
I was sent away with muscle corrective exercises and within 2 weeks I was able to sit on the floor again with no pain!
I am extremely grateful to Danielle and for her vast knowledgeEmma Tucker
